How to Make Your Bathrooms More Resistant to Mold?

Bathrooms are the most prone to mold forming. Molds are fungi that love to cling to tiles and bathroom fixtures. They are unsightly and can cause dangerous health conditions for you and your family. If you have allergic reactions or sensitivity to molds, it can cause shortness of breath, stuffy nose, irritated eyes and skin, and wheezing. Breathing in the mold can also trigger asthma attacks. Hence, molds are hazardous substances you don’t want in your home. What’s worse is thatmolds can damage the structural integrity of your house if left unattended.

But, the problem is the humidity in the bathroom. It is the perfect environment for them to grow. That’s why many homeowners are always trying to find the best way to eliminate this pesky problem. Although you cannot completely remove the risks of mold formation in your bathroom, there are a few techniques you can employ that can help you control mold growth.

Here are some tips to make your bathrooms more mold-resistant.

  1. Clean your bathroom regularly. A very tidy bathroom is the best preventive measure to keep the molds away. Have it cleaned periodically to make sure that dust and dirt do not accumulate in the room. Clear the drain and make sure any soap suds and scum get washed down. Scrub the floors properly and use a vinegar solution to get rid of bacteria and germs completely. Don’t forget to get in between the tiles. It is the number one spot where molds start to form.  Bleach is a great cleaning agent to clean tile grout.

Another area you should pay attention to is any glass surface in your bathroom. Disinfect mirrors and glass doors with a glass cleaner. You should also make sure that you have your shower curtains, bathroom rugs and towels machine-washed often.

  1. Drain every last bit of water. Make sure there are no water puddles in your bathroom after every use. Molds love moisture, and this encourages them to grow faster.

  2. Find and fix any leaks in the bathroom. Keep a close eye on your plumbing fixtures. Make sure that there aren’t any broken faucets or faulty pipes in your bathroom. If you find any leaks, immediately contact a plumber to fix it for you.

  3. Keep all bathing products in a dry area. Sometimes, your shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles can hide accumulated water, and this gives mold an opportunity to grow. You should wipe down every bathing product you have and keep them in a dry area separate from your shower stall when not in use.

  4. Have a good circulation system. Sometimes, the fault is in your bathroom design. Your bathroom should have at least one window to let air circulate inside. Remember, mold loves humid environments. Having proper ventilation, therefore, helps prevent mold.  An air vent and exhaust fan will also work if you don’t have a window.

These are prevention tips that will ensure that your bathroom stays clean and fresh and free from mold formation, so be sure to follow these tips to keep your home mold-free.
