Dealing with Mold in Tricky Spots
|Not all mold removal jobs are straightforward and easy to plan – in some cases, you’ll have to sit down and actively think about the problem before even getting to work with any tools. And depending on what you have access to, it may turn out that the job is completely outside of your reach in the first place. There’s no shame in calling for professional help when you’re in a tricky spot and learning to recognize the right situations for that is just as important as knowing how to deal with more basic types of mold problems yourself.
Gear Up Appropriately
If the problem is in a hard to reach spot, you’ll likely need some special gear to get there in the first place. Ensure that you’re protected against all possible mishaps – for example, if you’ll be climbing somewhere up high, get a fall arrest system. Even if you – or whoever will be doing the climbing – consider yourself experienced at this and in an overall good physical shape, you never know when something might go wrong that’s completely outside of your control.
Investigate the Root Cause
Try to get to the actual root cause of the problem before attempting any complicated procedures yourself. Sometimes, it might turn out that what you’re seeing are just the symptoms of the problem and not the actual cause, which could be hidden elsewhere. What’s more, you may sometimes discover that you don’t even need to go through all the trouble you had planned in the first place, as dealing with the root cause is much simpler and doesn’t require you to get to any difficult spots. Of course, that’s entirely individual for each case you’re facing, and it won’t always work out like that.
Know When It’s Time to Call an Expert
And in the end, you should also know when the situation calls for you to swallow your pride and just get the assistance of a professional to get the problem fixed. Learning to recognize those difficult moments is a skill in itself. You need to know that you’re not wasting your money on something you could have done yourself. Once everything is done though, you’ll definitely be thankful that you reached out to someone who knows how to handle this appropriately. Taking the DIY approach to something of this nature could potentially end up costing you even more in the long run if you mess the job up.
Don’t let something that should normally be a relatively simple job for someone experienced drain your resources because you took the wrong approach to it. Likewise, if you do decide to try resolving the situation yourself, make sure that you’re adequately prepared and have all the right gear necessary before going in. Mold is not to be underestimated, and it can cause a variety of problems if you don’t deal with it correctly the first time around, as you’re probably already well aware. Make sure that you do things right the first time, otherwise, things could get messy for you quite fast.
Mold is the worst, I absolutely hate it.
